Christmas tree cookies, the easy way

Posted on

Christmas time is officially here! December 8th is the day when we put up our Christmas decorations, and I also like to make this cookies to celebrate. I know a lot of people (myself included) are pretty busy at these times, that’s why these cookies are super simple (but still cute!)

You start off with some Christmas tree sugar cookies. I used my favorite recipe, from Sweet Sugarbelle. But to make these even easier, I used cookie dough I had previously made and frozen. Freezing cookie dough is really convenient, especially when you want to make just a few cookies. Since this recipe calls for just one egg, it’s better to make a whole batch (or more) and then freeze the leftovers (a half batch will make about 1 1/2 dozen cookies).

As easy as 1 2 3 (ok, maybe 4)

Once the cookies are sorted, make white royal icing that is moderately thick (should hold a trace for about 15 seconds) and pipe it onto the cookies. Then, it’s just a matter of adding sprinkles and sanding sugar. As shown above, I like to sprinkle them with red jimmies and silver pearls first. After that, I cover the whole cookie with green sanding sugar (remember to sprinkle it over a piece of paper or coffee filter, so that you can easily get the strayed sugar back into the container). Finally I add some gold stars for a finishing touch, and that’s it!

The great thing about this method is that you can have a great variety of designs with no extra effort, since you only have to make one color of icing. Plus, adding sprinkles is easier that piping details, so you can get your kids to help you. I made these on my own but I think they could be turned into a fun family activity.

I also made some pink ones; it’s my favorite color and those new pink trees are just too cute!

You can see the recipe here (I made half of the dough and a third of the icing, and got about 18 cookies). Have fun!

  1. Lovely blog you have! I just submitted my e-mail address for your future post. Do you have any way other than e-mail which I can follow you? eg Facebook, Google friend connect etc..

    • Thank you! I have a Twitter (@SaborPastelBlog), though I’m not too active yet. But you can add my blog to your reading list on Blogger, and get the updates on your Blogger dashboard. That’s what I do :) (and I think it works together with Google friend connect).

    • Thank you :) I can’t have a real pink tree since we already have a boring (and relatively new) green one. But fortunately pink cookies are just as cute! (and yummier, too)
